    I have been waiting 3 weeks to get clearance to ride mountain again after knee surgery. With a blown thumb joint from too many years of road riding, shifting the Shimano XT drive train on my Niner RDO Jet was painful at best.

    All I can say is the D1x has replaced my favorite shifter (SRAM Twist Grip). The D1x is quicker and much more convenient. I found myself shifting more therefore allowing for more efficient riding and best of all – no sore thumbs.

    I have Di2 on my road bike and Xshifter on my enduro and XC bikes, so I’m used to the idea of electronic shifting. The Archer D1x Trail is an interesting product, but it just isn’t quite there yet IMHO.

    1st and worst problem is the latency – there’s simply too much lag from the time I push the button to the time I get a shift. If I’m just messing around, it doesn’t matter, but if I’m riding fast and technical runs, I need to do my shift quickly and get on with it. After a day at the bike park, I was ready to go back to my old Eagle X01 shift pod. That’s not a good sign.

    The remote needs more work. On light duty riding, the remote is fine, but I need to be able to push the right button every time and get the gear I want. The two buttons on the D1x remote are similar enough to each other that I’ve accidentally hit the wrong button a few times on technical trails. Something like a paddle-and-trigger arrangement would be better.

    There needs to be a better way to dump gears. Clicking many times to change gears or long presses to shift a couple gears at a time isn’t ideal when I need to dump gears quickly. Ideally, the pod should have a shift lever with multiple indexed clicks on it, so I can tap it for one gear and sweep through as many clicks as I need gears.

    Linking to the app is a mess. When I want to connect to the app, it’s really hard to pick out the D1X. The label almost never shows up in the Bluetooth menu, and when I’m at a bike park, the number of non D1X devices in range is astronomical. I’ve actually had situations where I had shift issues and needed to access the app, but couldn’t link up and had to mess around with the micro-adjust button. If I didn’t have the micro adjust remote, it would have been a nightmare.

    On the bright side, Archer honored their 30-day guarantee and refunded my money without any difficulty. Hats off to them for being true to their word. I want to see the D1X succeed and would be up to giving them another chance, but I need a product that makes me wonder how I ever lived with cable shifting, not something that makes me long for it.

    I ordered one for my tandem with S&S couplings for my trip across Portugal. Was super excited to find a shifter where I can eliminate one cable and solve shifting inconsistencies. However it came defective and won’t setup properly. I contacted support and Devin called me On Sunday trying to help me troubleshoot. After a couple of minutes he figured something was wrong, emailed me RMA and asked to send back so they can replace the unit. Unfortunately I decided not to get a replacement as I had issues installing remote on drop road bars. Clamp was too small. It seems like a great system for mountain bikes as the clamp is ideal for straight bars. Support was great and I am sure this is a great product.

    One of those rare products that does exactly what it is supposed to, and meets every claim by the manufacturer. I have used the original version for a year and recently purchased the new updated Trail version. Solid improvements on a great product. The performance has always been flawless and completely reliable with zero adjustments required after initial setup. The D1x is versatile, smooth, and consistent. The wireless connection is rock solid and the app works great. The hardware is sturdy and well designed, the installation is straightforward and secure, it has a cleverly designed, well sealed cable access and the battery access and life has been improved with the new version. I found the battery life to be more than adequate already but improvements are always welcome. On that note the remote shift buttons are also better with the new rubber covers and more tactile feel. I opted for the firmer button option and the micro-adjust feature, I really like the new buttons and they are still easy to press, but I’m not sure the micro-adjust is needed since the system is so reliable and seems to never need adjusting once set up correctly, plus the app works so well for this. But it is nice that they provided the option for those that may have other requirements. If you need or want electronic shifting but don’t want the significant expense and limited options of AXS or Di2, this is a great system.

    Junk, would not advise to use or buy, lacking detailed parts identification and step by step instructions. Rubber cover not easily put back on even with silicone. Bottom line, save your money.

    Bought the D1x 1 year ago. I’m from the Netherlands, shipping was expensive and I had to pay import taxes. In total I was 480 euro lighter, I cried a little, first world problems. Anyway, have been using this for a year on a XC hardtail bike in combination with 11 speed Shimano XT derailleur. All I can say, it’s an awesome device. Initial setup is easy, especially if you’re already used tinkering on your bike. The fact that you can dial in every gear individually with the app is amazing, no more clunky gears. And if you notice that your gears are no longer spot on, just make some small adjustments with the app, and you’re good to go again. When I had big crash, and I bent my derailleur hanger slightly, I once again made some small changes with the app to readjust my gears. This is something you could never do with a traditional cable. After not riding the bike for 3 months I had 1 issue. When I shifted in the highest gear the D1x went in full beserk mode, the motor kept running, basically trying to pull/release the cable. The on/off button stopt responding, I removed the battery, to make it stop. Put the batteries back, and connected with the app, but it got stuck in this loop, for a bit I was clueless. Then I figured it out, since the bike was stationary for 3 months, the gear cable stretched out a bit over time or got a little bit loose. I unscrewed the cable tension bolt on the derailleur, and re-tensioned the gear cable, turned on the D1x and the D1x was functioning normally again. I have no regrets buying this product, it’s worth every penny. It makes perfect shifting easy, and you can mix and match brands. SRAM casette, Shimano derailleur or vice versa, as long it is cable actuated, it will work. 10/10 IGN rating from me 🙂

    Just got done installing my D1x trail and the process was pretty smooth and straight forward . The unit itself looks pretty robust and shifts quick. Not to mention that the new remote with the micro adjustment works flawless. I just wish that it came with the Shimano I-Spec2 for much cleaner install. Nevertheless Archercomponents did a great job on the D1x trail and it’s much affordable compared to the other wireless units out there. It was definitely worth the wait !!!

    Wow, purely and simply Wow.
    I have been riding and building bikes for close to 30 years now, since I was 4 or 5 years old. I started riding just as the front suspension fork was evolving into something less of a novelty into a viable, usable and extremely beneficial component. Which improved MTB as a whole it opened up doors to what was it possible to do with a bike ( if you had the balls ) things that had never been thought possible.
    The next and probably, in my view the greatest advancement in MTB was of course rear suspension. Completely revolutionising what was possible, and basically creating a new style and category of riding. Leading to Downhill, All Mountain and Free Ride.
    Last but by no means least, is the introduction of hydraulic disc brakes. This new breed of unbridled, raw stopping power gave us thrill seekers the final element we required to push the sport we love to the very extreme of what we as riders were each capable of.
    Now of course electronic shifting offered by the likes of SRAM, Shimano and others is equally as notable as the rest I have mentioned. But although it is in the same sort of price range as a top of the range fork or shock and in relation also a high spec brake set. It is also a very niche and considered purchase. That in my eyes and probably most others not something that is worth the money over all.
    Which is were your product comes into it’s own very unique category. I already have a very expensive and what in my opinion is the best group set out there in a complete Shimano XTR set up. And as soon as I have saved the $400 I will be placing my order and will await its delivery impatiently like a child on Christmas Eve.
    Also I’m sure you already have plans in the pipe line, but I think you could completely eliminate cockpit clutter if you developed your own bars. Or I have already designed a rough plan for a easily produced jig to enable the shifting components to be incorporated into my existing handle bars. Either having both up and down buttons on one side or splitting them and having one available to each thumb on each side of the bar.

    Put in polarity protection like a diode… Scares me that I can accidentally ruin it by putting the batteries in backwards where most expensive electronics just won’t power up until you put the batteries in correctly.

    • We agree! The issue was discovered early and we’ve already fixed the issue. Any of the shifters that went out with the missing protection that got fried were replaced with fixed ones.

    Just got this set up on my bike this afternoon. I’ve been following these guys for a while and was very interested to see what the final product looked like. I was pretty impressed by the quality and over all sturdiness of the shifter and remote. It took about as much time to set up as a normal cable system and although I turned the remote on when you weren’t supposed to, devin answered my call straight away and walked me through the issue. (Both your phone and the remote cant connect to the shifter at the same time). Rode it about 15 miles afterwards and it was a lot faster and smoother than i was anticipating. Feels just like di2 or e tap does in terms of speed. Pretty stoked to see how it performs tomorrow!

    HOLY S%#T! The D1x is awesome. I don’t have enough thumbs to give it a proper thumbs up. I love it.
    Easy to set up, shifts like a dream, even under load. My drivetrain has never been so quiet. Double and triple shifts are a breeze. It was very easy to get used to the buttons coming from the XTR shifters I have been using for 20 years.

    It is a great product and I’m looking forward to seeing how it evolves over time.

    I have one small complaint that might be easily resolved. I don’t like the mount, the remote does not sit parallel with my handlebar, looking down at it it would need to rotate clockwise. I’d rather have it parallel to the handlebar.

    Anyway couldn’t be happier with the shifter. Just rode some really rooty technical trails and it was a breeze my first time out. Thanks again for all your help and great customer service!

    Bought the D1x about a month ago. Installed it on the bike and unfortunately installed batteries backwards (don’t do this), which fried the control board. Devin was super quick to help diagnose the issue and send me a replacement.
    Installed the replacement on my bike and did a very quick indexing before taking it on a short ride around my neighborhood. All seemed quite well, so I took it for ride on trails that weekend and I was plagued by undesired shifts while climbing. On the ride home, I realized my error. I had indexed to the point it where the gear first changed to the next cog, resulting in it being on the edge of the shift point, resulting in the unwanted shifts.
    Took time and re-indexed the gears again, this time figuring the mid-point between when it shifted TO a gear and when it shifted to the next gear, then set to the point in the middle of the two points. Took the bike out for second ride, and it was flawless. Shifts are nice and clean. Love the features in the app like rescue gear (for low power).
    I will say that it’s so quiet that it took a bit to get used to at first, being used to a click with each gear change. Now that I’m used to it, it’s really slick. Great work to the Archer crew. A+ product and equally impressive customer service.

    The box from Archer showed up on my porch, I struggled a bit trying to unbox the DX 1 fast enough for my cat that was waiting to get in the box. Install was a breeze, it took less time than I expected. I been riding it for almost a month now here in the sloppy northwest. It’s working great, better then my riding skills. No more cold hands shifting issues for me! I can shift wearing warm ski gloves.

    I installed the D1X system on my bike about a month ago now. Installation was very easy. I followed the instructions and tuned the shift points with the archer app. I rode 160 miles over the next four days and the shifting was outstanding. I made ridiculous shifts that you normally wouldn’t do like multiple gear changes under load on steep climbs and rapid shifts up and down. The system performed perfectly. The first three days were on very worn chain, cassette and chain ring. The fourth day was on brand new running year. No adjustments were needed after the initial set up the system is still working perfect with 600 miles now. I’m loving how fast & crisp the shifting is. Archer has an awesome product IMHO. Looking forward to hammering out 1,000 dirt miles over the next couple months & posting another review.

    The shiftier works great. Very easy to set up and fine tune the shifting. Using buttons to change gears is strange, but feels good and is easy to do. Devin has been very helpful sorting things out.

    Great product! Smooth shifting with precise adjusting. I needed a few installation questions answered and Devin was very quick to respond.     Awesome product! Finally I can have electronic precise shifting on my SRAM Eagle. There have been a couple of issues with the device, but Devin had them sorted out immediately. In fact, my feedback has lead to changes in the design to make it even better!
